Awakening Padi Elf

“According to the design concept, two statue-like bowls appear as curious eyes on the top of Padi Hill, evoking a figure opening its eyes. The function of the building is to be built as a winery, including the associated wine exhibition and wine tasting areas, with a total area of 4,002 square metres. The complex consists essentially of two organically connected parts of the building. One is the ‘rectangular’ part of the building, which represents the main mass of the building, and the other is the ‘chalice’, defined by two intersecting circular planes, which have a different structural design,” said Miklós Bakos, Chief Executive Officer of HUNÉP Zrt.

Bord Architectural Studio is also the one who created the stunning designs of the Nagyerdő bath in Debrecen. We covered the start of the construction in this article. It blends into the landscape

The challenge for designers and builders alike is to build an ultra-modern winery on Padi Hill, where the landscape is dominated by the vineyards of the historic Tokaj wine region. The two bowls, each 36 metres in diameter, provide visitors with walkable spaces, will be partially lowered under ground level so that it moulds better to the shape of the hillside. Green areas are planned on the roof of the two circular buildings, and the vineyards will wrap around the ultra-modern building at ground level. “It is always our goal to build something that strives for balance. This is especially important in a green environment. The mountain is alive. The grapes are nourished by the power of sunlight, making the wine a drink of life, part of our social life. This is why it is important for HUNÉP Zrt. to create a winery in Tokaj, which is ultra-modern, yet almost one with nature,” the CEO emphasised.
