Police have long been looking for the fourth member of a gang that beat up Indian citizens in Bácsalmás, a small settlement in Hungary. On the morning of May 7, 2021, the fourth 40-year-old member of the group was also captured.
As police.hu wrote, three men were detained in November 2020 because foreign nationals were abused during the summer. Bácsalmás has less than 7,000 inhabitants. The city is home to several Indians who work at a nearby slaughterhouse. The settlement is led by Balázs Németh, the politician of Fidesz-KDNP. According to a report by atlatszo.hu, most of them did not have any bad experiences with Indians. However, some have a bad eye on foreigners.
According to many residents of Bácsalmás, the Hungarian government’s anti-migrant campaign also contributed to the hostile atmosphere. It degenerated to the point where some drunk people teased the Indians in the city centre. The teasing was followed by a push, after which Indians run away. However, the case did not end here.
A four-person masked gang broke into the Indians ‘apartment, and the residents were beaten with sticks and baseball bats.
The victims suffered minor injuries, while the building suffered more than 50,000 forints in damage. Extensive data collection was carried out at the Bácsalmási Police Station of the Baja Police Headquarters. Among other things, the images of all the surveillance cameras of the settlement were analysed. Based on the evidence, the four perpetrators were identified. Three of the four perpetrators were arrested in November 2020. However, the fourth member fled abroad.
Police successfully arrested the fourth suspect on 7 May.
The propaganda of the Hungarian government is often published in the press because of the anti-migrant sentiment. Still, in recent years no residence permit was required from non-EU countries. It is enough if the employing company announces the employee. As a result of that, 40,000 workers came from Ukraine and Serbia in one year. The foreign hostility constantly voiced by the Hungarian government does not help to overcome cultural differences. Balázs Németh, the mayor of Bácsalmás, asks the residents to try to find the accurate news and to avoid increasing the tension. He added that the aim of the settlement is for everyone to live in peace, regardless of ethnicity.
Locked the gang up and throw away the key.
