Record 44 percent would re-elect Orbán

Nézőpont's survey - Popularity list: Viktor Orbán, Gábor Vona, Bernadett Szél

Budapest, May 15 (MTI) – A record 44 percent of Hungarian voters would re-elect the incumbent prime minister if elections were held now, according to a survey by the Nézőpont Institute.

Support for Viktor Orbán in May was higher than for the other five opposition contenders combined, Nézőpont said on Monday.

Gábor Vona of the opposition Jobbik party would receive 11 percent, followed by Bernadett Szél of LMP with 8 percent. Ferenc Gyurcsány of the leftist Democratic Coalition was backed by 6 percent while László Botka of the Socialists had 5 percent support. Fully 2 percent approved of Liberal leader Gábor Fodor.

Nézőpont said that support for Orbán had increased from 32 percent in May 2015, when the institute conducted its first survey gauging voter support for prime ministerial candidates.

Over the course of the past two years, support for Vona reached its zenith of 13 percent in August, 2015, Nézőpont said.

Nézőpont surveyed a representative sample of 1,000 voting-age adults by phone between May 9 and 11.

  1. Great!! It is good to see that the people of Hungary are not distracted by false attacks on a government that works for its citizens. Finally, Hungary is lucky to have a leader that loves, cares for them and has the talent to make a positive impact.

  3. A sample of 1000 people is a little low. No age description from the pollsters either. Its nice to see Orban still have support despite the tampering of, the Soros backed EU mob.
