Orban Discusses Energy Security, Acacia With Barroso In Berlin

(MTI) – Energy security and Hungary’s false acacia were among topics discussed by Prime Minister Viktor Orban and President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso in Berlin on Wednesday, foreign affairs and economy state secretary Peter Szijjarto said.

Barroso and Orban assessed relations between Hungary and the European Union and were in agreement that they were good, Szijjarto said. Hungary is in continual consultations with the EC and “all disputes are settled through negotiations,” Szijjarto said.

Energy security was an important topic of the talks and Orban said Hungary was deeply concerned for European energy security and urged a stronger common energy policy, Szijjarto added.

Commenting on the issue of Hungarian false acacia, he said “the prime minister asked for mercy to the Hungarian tree, which Barroso granted.”

Orban travelled to Berlin on Wednesday evening. He is scheduled to address the Europa Forum conference by the German regional public service broadcaster WDR on Thursday and will hold talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
