Orbán cabinet continues to reject gas and oil embargo on Russia

"We do not support embargoes on Russia oil and gas"

Hungary’s stance regarding embargoes on Russia oil and gas has not changed, “we do not support them”, Zoltan Kovacs, the state secretary for international communications, said in a Facebook post on Monday.

Kovács reacted to the German ZDF television channel’s reports on Hungary, Slovakia and Austria withdrawing their veto blocking sanctions on Russian crude oil imports into the European Union.

Citing a high-ranking EU official,

ZDF said that Germany’s announcement to support the veto had tipped the balance, with all EU countries now in favour of stopping the imports of Russian crude oil, as a punitive measure in response to Russia’s attack on Ukraine.

The EU aims to reduce its dependence on Russian oil and gas by two-thirds by the end of the year and to zero by the end of 2027, EU Economic Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni has said.

MOL

The Hungarian oil group, which operates three refineries in Hungary, Croatia and Slovakia, continues to buy Russian crude via Druzhba pipeline, as well as refined products, says Reuters.

The company said

it would take two to four years and cost between $500 and $700 million to replace Russian oil imports in case of a full European embargo.

  1. Membership and Pay Packets from Russia – would be Cut Off ///.

  2. When a government chooses to use Facebook as the principal means of communication regarding its policies to its population (and beyond) then one knows that the government is a rank amateur and the officials using that method are beneath contempt. Over half of the Hungarian population do not use Facebook.

  3. Within the EU constitution (to which Hungary signed up) there is an override mechanism regarding a veto which may be applied during times of war. It is feasible that this mechanism could be applied to the current situation and then what Hungary thinks or wants ceases to be relevant. The tail will not wag the dog! The beggar nation cannot dictate what denomination of notes it wants. It is arrogance that got Hungary into trouble in 1914 and it has still not learned its lesson.

  4. The broadness of the name Hungary – the on-going “Scaring ” and DAMAGE, that is occuring, to the brand name Hungary – compounded by FACT, an Economy, that all componentry TRENDS downwards – alarm bells continue to GROW.
Those of the Hungarian population, who voted at the recent National Elections, to vote in Favour, the return to Govern Hungary over the next (4) four years – the Fidesz Party under the Leadership of the present Prime Minister of Hungary – Victor Orban – Remember – that you :
    (1) – take OWNERSHIP – through your choice of Vote.
    (2) – are Accountable for what is occuring – on-going in Hungary.
    (3) – are RESPONSIBLE – for what is occuring – on-going in Hungary.

The Government are in a “Wedged” position, that sees them abandoned of friendships from “other” countrys other than Russia & China.

There is NO escape – as highlighted in points 1 to 3 – for those that voted for the Fidesz Party.

  5. Mr. Putin’s investment in our Christian, Sovereign and fiercely Independent Hungary, which Mr. Orban is protecting from the likes of Soros and the Brussels Eurocrats, appears to be paying off!

Nothing quite like a classic Trojan Horse
