Budapest (MTI) – The number of people unlawfully crossing Hungary’s border with Serbia has continued to fall compared with the recent past, the spokesperson of the in Csongrad County police headquarters said on Saturday.
Police took measures against a total of 113 people illegally crossing the border at fourteen locations on Friday, down from over 300 a day in the previous week.
Seven of the immigrants were Kosovars while the others came mainly from Syria, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, the spokesman said. They have submitted asylum applications.
This week, the number of people illegally crossing the border has been between 113 and 280 a day on this border section. The previous week, police stopped well over 300 people a day, and earlier the number of illegal border crossers peaked at more than 1,000 a day.
