Now anyone can buy one of the legendary Ikarus buses

Now you can buy an Ikarus bus as well as metro relics and metro station equipment:

From time to time, Budapest’s public transport company BKV puts some of its aging vehicles up for sale. Now they have done so again, with a total of 28 Ikarus buses up for bid, including the last of the legendary 200 series.

“We are pleased to inform all dear Ikarus fans, collectors and savers that the opportunity to buy the iconic pieces withdrawn from the capital’s public transport system has arrived,” reads the Facebook post of BKV. The vehicles offered for auction are proposed for refurbishment, and it is also worth viewing them in person.

The auction call includes a total of 35 vehicles, the vast majority of which, 28 Ikarus vehicles. A good number of the buses offered for sale have been retired since last year. There is a choice of 260s, 280s and members of the 400 series, such as 412s and 435s.

Some are inoperative, with no engine or gearbox and a poorly equipped passenger compartment.

The buses in service are between 23 and 35 years old, but are in relatively good condition, as BKV has maintained them.

One of the buses offered for sale is a special editio. BKV is offering for sale its bus type 260.00, registration number JNG-724, which has a facelift Classic front and rear wall. The bus has a slightly lower floor level at the rear door. The bus was converted in 2006 to ensure equal opportunities. The vehicle is offered for sale by BKV for HUF 1,640,000 (EUR 4161.10), vezess.hu said.
