Night of Museums to offer 2000 programmes in 320 institutions

Night of Museums in Hungary - Last year's events attracted as many as 400,000 visitors!

On June 24, the 15th Night of Museums will offer over 2000 programs in 320 venues countrywide.

Last year’s events attracted as many as 400,000 visitors, over half of them outside of Budapest, state secretary of culture Magdolna Zavogyán said.

In Budapest, armbands granting entry to the events also allow for discounts on the Budapest bike-share system Bubi and electric cars, as well as free-of-charge use of the buses and electric cars among the venues.

László Baán, director of the Museum of Fine Arts, said that the Victor Vasarely Museum for Modern Art would re-open after a one-year reconstruction period.

László Papp, Mayor of Debrecen, welcomed that the eastern Hungarian city would be the “capital” of the programs, saying that hosting the Night of Museums would be an important experience in preparations for next year’s Cultural Capital of Europe tender. On the Night of Museums, Hungarian romantic painter Mihály Munkácsy’s Golgotha trilogy and French sculptor August Rodin’s Kiss will be displayed in Debrecen, he said.
