Mass COVID-19 testing can start nationwide in Hungary as early as next week in order to determine how infected the country really is – László Palkovics, Minister of Innovation and Technology, announced in an online conference on epidemiology.

Palkovics said that they would like to know exactly how many people are infected in Hungary and, based on the results, decide about further measures. They would like to know whether they should relax previous measures about isolation and other limitations or restrict them even more, and they would like to know who to protect and how to realise it.

Dr Beatrix Oroszi, the expert leader of the Methodological Developments in the Health System project at the National Public Health Center of Hungary, added that they need more testing in order to find everyone who is infected in the earliest possible stages of the disease and try and isolate them adequately from the public for two weeks.

Szeretlek Magyarország shared the report of RTL Híradó. They wanted to know who exactly will be tested, on what criteria, with what type of test, and how many total tests will be conducted daily, but as of yet, the Operational Board has not answered the channel’s questions.
