LMP wants information on foreign minister Moscow trip

Budapest (MTI) – The green LMP party has called on Peter Szijjarto, the foreign minister, to inform the public about the purpose of an upcoming visit to Moscow.

LMP co-leader Bernadett Szel told MTI on Saturday that any previous talks by government members “held in secret” in Moscow had resulted in bad deals for Hungary, and added that the government’s pro-Russia policy was unacceptable.

The government is acting as if Hungary “were Russia’s last satellite”, Szel insisted, and referred to expressions of “unconditional support” for the South Stream gas pipeline as well as Hungary’s agreement with Russia concerning an upgrade of the Paks nuclear station as examples.

Szel also insisted that Russia has control over Hungary’s gas reserves, which could be used as a “strategic weapon” in a prolonged Russia-Ukraine conflict.
