Budapest, June 10 (MTI) – Parliament today approved an amendment to the law on the local government election system so that, besides the city mayor, 23 district mayors and 9 representatives from party lists are represented in the Budapest assembly.
Mandates will be distributed according to the weight of individual districts in terms of their population.
The Fidesz-sponsored bill was approved with 133 in favour and 53 against.
Among other changes, a dual majority system is also being introduced. Besides a simple majority in the assembly, the majority should also represent more than half of Budapest residents.
