Thanks to the support of the government, the production of new ferries and catamarans has begun in addition to the renewal of the Balaton Shipping Company鈥檚 current fleet and the preparations for the refurbishment of the ports operated by the company. Balaton Shipping Company鈥檚 new ships will arrive in 2022.

The state鈥檚 capital increase of HUF 6.6 billion (鈦揈UR 17,968,114) allows Balaton Shipping Company to purchase two 45-metre ferries and two 35-metre catamarans for nearly HUF 5.7 billion (鈦揈UR 15,517,916). The investment is the first step in

the shipping company鈥檚 large-scale development project lasting until 2030 and aiming to replace the existing old ships on Lake Balaton with a modern fleet,

the company told Turizmus.

The new fleet consists of four ship types, and the new vessels are equipped with state-of-the-art propulsion systems and passenger service equipment. The main goal is to provide passengers with a service that meets European standards. This is a development of historic proportions in the life of Lake Balaton, claims Balaton Shipping Company.

The ships are already in production, and, according to the plans, they will start operating in 2022.

The new vessels are built in Kom谩rom (Komarno), Slovakia, the most important port city of the former Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. Kom谩rom鈥檚 119-year-old engineering enterprise, SAM-Shipbuilding and Machinery, has vast experience in the production of large ships and heavy steel structures.

In addition to exports to the East, Russia, and Ukraine, SAM also builds ships and high-performance floating cranes for China and the Republic of South Africa.
