Budapest, October 7 (MTI) – A European parliamentary committee’s rejection of commissioner-designate Tibor Navracsics’s bid to head the culture and education portfolio serves as a warning to the government, the radical nationalist Jobbik party said.
After a hearing on Monday, the European Commission said that the committee had voted in favour of Navracsics as a commissioner but rejected his bid to head the culture, education, youth and EU citizenship portfolio.
Jobbik called it “hypocrisy” that Navracsics had tried to distance himself from the government during his hearing by the EP’s cultural committee and in answers he gave to questions posed by MEPs, when it was only very recently that he had been member of the very same government, Jobbik lawmaker Tibor Bana said in a statement.
The committee’s vote on his candidacy clearly shows that he does not have the support to head the portfolio, the statement said, adding that the government’s “propaganda”, which tries to portray the events as a success, is “incomprehensible”.
