According to the information, provided by ITAR-TASS, inspectors from Hungary, Italy and Slovenia will make an observation flight over Russia from May 26 till May 30.
This operation is a part of the international Treaty on Open Skies, which was signed back in 1992. Thirty-four members of the agreement have decided to assist each other in providing transparency and “assist each other in the monitoring of the implementation of arms control agreements, broaden possibilities for the prevention of crises, and settle crisis situations within the framework of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and other international organizations.” Based on the treaty, observation flights happen over Russia, European countries, Canada, and the Unites States.
This upcoming aviation operation will be made on board of the Hungarian observation plane AN-26. It is emphasized that even though AN-26 is a military airplane it is still a small freight aircraft and was not design to carry any weapons on board.
