Budapest (MTI) – Hungary is prepared to provide help in assessing the scale of damage done recently by extremists to ancient cultural sites in Iraq as well as restoration work, a state secretary of the foreign ministry said on Friday.
Hungarian experts with extensive knowledge of these sites and a well-established network of contacts would start field work as soon as the military situation allows, said Istvan Ijgyarto, who is in charge of cultural and science diplomacy.
The Hungarian side has already informed the Iraqi authorities about the initiative launched by archeologist and Assyria expert Tamas Dezso, the dean of the Budapest ELTE University’s humanities department, he told a press conference
