5 Hungarian wine cellars you must visit

According to Magyarorszagom.hu, Hungarians know what makes a good wine. The country has numerous vineyards, many of which have been operating for a long time on different kinds of soil.

Tokaj – Béres Vintner and wine cellar

Operated by a family, this wine cellar is rather young. It started operating in 2003 next to a village called Erdőbénye on ten hectares. They are well-known for the Tokaj Cuvée mellowed in an oak cask. The result is a fresh, fruity, sugary and savvy wine.

It is worth visiting them in August, since Erdőbénye, the village nearby holds its local festivals this time of the year.

Eger – Vincze wine cellar

Eger is the second biggest city in Eastern Hungary, where this wine cellar is located. The Vincze wine cellar’s most famous product is Cabernet Franc Arcanum 2007, which was

rewarded with a gold medal by Mode Selection in Brussels.

Their wines made from Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch) and Blaugurger grapes must not be omitted.

Eger is one of the oldest cities of Hungary, therefore not only their wine cellars are worth visiting once you’re there. The famous Beatles Museum can also be found here.

Villány – Bock wine cellar

The traditional Bock family wine cellar has been occupied with wine-making since the 18th century. Cserszegi Fűszeres, Ottonel muscat, Sauvignon blanc Hárslevelű, and white wines made of chardonnay grape are just some of

their succulent wines made from the fruits cultivated on 70 hectares.

Bock wine cellar’s most popular wine is Magnifico, made of merlot.

Mór – Lics wine cellar

This vineyard is located North of the Velencei Lake on 25 hectares. It is a favoured touristic destination since over the picturesque landscape you can often see a beautiful sunset. Thanks to the Meleg-hegy (mountain), which is located North of the vineyards, it has exceptional climate characteristics, making possible the cultivation of special grapes, such as Turán or Blue Medoc.

Szekszárd – Fritz Wine House and Pension

This vineyard laid out on 30 hectares is honouring the local German traditions since 1635. The soil gives a sacred feeling since right next to it, a chapel can be found. It is famous for its white vines.

Tanya Cuvée 2011 is worth trying. It is made of two noble species of grape. The combination of them results in an elegant, silky full wine.
