Hungarian higher education entrance points announced yesterday

Congratulations to #future #students who have been #selected! #hungary #hungarian #education

Finally, the long-awaited moment has come: the Hungarian higher education application entrance points were announced yesterday evening. As Index.hu reports, it was harder for future doctors to reach the points as each of the departments’ points were raised, while at some faculties the maximum 500 points were needed.

Approximately 108,000 students applied for higher education institutions, but only 75,000 were happy when the announcement of the points was made. In the case of most of the faculties, the limit of points that were needed out of the maximum 500 decreased compared to last year. It will not be easy for students to find the perfect and cheap flats in the centre of the city, as we have written about the curren t situation recently.

Points were raised at all 4 medical universities, as well as other faculties, such as Psychology and IT.

High school students and young adults could apply to several universities at the same time, but they can only start a higher education program at one of them: the most prioritised on the applicants’ list. The required number of points depends on the popularity of the faculty (and university), and the average points of the applicants. Therefore, increased points mean an increased amount of applicants with possibly higher points. The number of scholarships can also be a factor in how the entrance points were calculated.

By instance, only 1-2 students are accepted to start the German language and culture – Latin language and culture program pair for future teachers, where the maximum 500 points were needed.

Eötvös Loránd University of Sciences received  the most applications, where 1,000 more students can enrol than in last year, altogether 9,744. This may be because ELTE has the most places and they just opened another campus: the Institute of Economics, to which 596 applicants were selected.

3,418 selected applicants can start the new academic year at Corvinus University of Budapest, 2,539 of whom receive state scholarship, while 879 will start self-financed studies. More than twice as much start their studies at the Székesfehérvár campus of Corvinus University. Points were just as high as usual for getting into the university: the average number was 425 points for state scholarship programs and 412 for self-financed ones.

Extraordinarily high, 470 points were needed for the International economics and International relations programs, latter conducted both in Hungarian and English.

Budapest University of Technology and Economics affiliated 4,789 new students for the next academic year. As there is a serious lack of IT professionals in Hungary, more students will participate in BME’s educational program in this field. Students will start to take part in companies’ projects from the second year on in the new Bprof (Bachelor of Profession) Engineering-informatics faculty.

Semmelweis University of Medicine gave a chance to 2,074 applicants. More applications than average were received, which is reflected in the higher number of points needed for the M.D. courses.

Hungarian students are reaching great results not only in their home country but throughout competitions and admission to competitive university programs in the UK.
