Fossil fuels must be phased out, the deputy group leader of opposition LMP said on Thursday, slamming the government’s decision to vote against a European Union proposal to curb gas consumption by 15 percent.

The government insists on an economic policy that ruins the environment, Máté Kanász-Nagy told a press conference.

At a time when 90 percent of the gas consumed comes from imports, the government is planning to build gas-fuelled plants to provide electricity for battery plants, Kanász-Nagy said. The imports would probably come from Russia, he added.

Hungary and Poland voted against a proposal of the European Commission to extend earlier legislation cutting the use of natural gas by 15 percent on Tuesday. At the time, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó warned that artificially curbing industrial consumption raised the risk of economic regression, and accused the EC of curbing member states’ competencies on energy issues.

  1. Go munch on some cauliflower, Mate. Fossil fuels cannot and MUST NOT be phased out until we have a viable, reliable, cheap, and efficient alternative, which we don’t. We’re not investing in nuclear power. We’ve made very little progress with nuclear fusion. There’s no attempts to pursue hydroelectric. The “green” B.S. is not eco-friendly at all, relies on child slave labor in Africa to source many of the components involved in the solar panels and wind turbines, is ludicrously expensive and not viable without massive taxpayer subsidies, and is notoriously unreliable. Oh, and at a time China’s CO2 emissions are going through he roof and it’s opening a new coal power plant every single, ask me if I care about what my gas stove is doing to the environment. I am not going to be thrown back into the 15th century at the behest of what is approaching religious dogma with these greenies. This guy and others like him are living in a different galaxy.
