The work of a newly graduated Hungarian animation film director, Balázs Simon, has been nominated at the UK Music Video Awards, hvg.hu reports.
The animated short film ”Re” is the music video of Nils Frahm’s song with the same title, and is competing with the music videos of bands like Coldplay, Metronomy, James, Savages and Throne for the award in the ’Best Animation in a Video’ category of the UK Music Video Awards. The winners in all categories will be announced on November 11, but whatever the results will be, Simon has already won the hearts of many, and his work had attracted the attention of the international media as well.
Balázs Simon has recently finished his studies at BKF University of Applied Sciences, in Budapest, he received a degree in animation and currently works in the institution as a lecturer. His video was inspired by the landscapes of Norway, resembling the country’s unique ambiance. „It is like being at the end of the world” – the young artist told hvg.hu – „as you go farther, there is more water and the land lessens under your feet. When you look at a map, it seems obvious, but experiencing it is extraordinary, full of freedom and excitement.”
The animation made its debut on noisey.com, where it was labelled „an animated slow-motion dream” by the editor. ’Re’ received international appreciation since then, and the film has been invited to several international videofilm festivals.
