Hungarian cargo plane skids off runway at Italian airport – Photos, Videos

Rome, August 5 (MTI) – A Hungarian cargo plane skidded off the runway at Bergamo airport in northern Italy early on Friday, crashing through the airport’s fence before ending up on a nearby road.

The accident is believed to have been caused by stormy weather, Italian air regulator Enac said. Neither of the plane’s two crew members were injured.

The Boeing 737-476 jet travelling from Paris was operated by ASL Airlines Hungary, according to aviation news portal Airportal.hu.

Eight firefighter teams rushed to the crash site.

The Bergamo airport had to be closed for a few hours after the accident but flights have since partially resumed. A total of 15 flights had to be cancelled and some of the Friday morning flights have been rerouted through Malpensa airport in nearby Milan.

Italy’s flight safety agency ANSV has launched an investigation into the accident.
