Four Hungarian unions to join European transport workers’ union protest

Budapest, January 28 (MTI) – Four unions of Hungarian air traffic controllers will join a strike action called for January 30 by the European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF), Control, one of the unions, told MTI today.

ETF has called the strike action to protest against the European Commission’s reform plan, which it thinks will have negative impacts on air traffic controllers, including layoffs.

The reform would involve spending cuts based on unrealistic traffic forecasts, which will endanger the ability of air traffic control agencies to continue the safe provision of air navigation services, according to ETF.

Hungary’s Control said it would hold a two-hour strike action from 9am to 11am, involving reduced air control services for flights in the Hungarian airspace.

The IDFSZ and LIFSZ unions will also join the two-hour action and provide minimum services while LIGOSZ will express solidarity at a workers’ forum. The actions may cause disruptions and delays, the unions said.
