Consultations on Sunday shopping still under way, says press chief
Originally, shops occupying less than 400 square metres and family businesses would have been exempt from the Sunday restrictions planned to come into force on March 15, 2015.
The Fidesz proposal now put forward a limitation at 200 square metres. It also limited the number of Sundays exempt from the ban to one yearly, as opposed to the original five, on top of the Advent season when Sunday shopping would not be limited between 6am and 10pm.
Restaurants nationwide and retail shops in Budapest’s UNESCO world heritage area would also fall outside the scope of the legislation.
In line with another amendment, however, tobacco shops would be closed on Sunday.
