Budapest, August 4 (MTI) – Hungary’s ruling Fidesz party wants a multipronged solution to the problem of illegal migration rather building reception centres, a party spokesman said on Tuesday.
Temporary reception centres are needed but these must be closed once the wave of illegal migration wanes, Bence Tuzson told a press conference, noting the number of illegal migrants in the country recently surpassed 100,000.
Up until midnight on Monday, 106,309 people crossed illegally to Hungary since the beginning of the year, 105,587 from Serbia, Tuzson said.
The number of illegal entrants was 40,000 just over a month, the same as throughout the whole of 2014, he added.
Commenting on the two temporary reception centres the government plans to build in southern Hungary, Tuzson said there is no ideal place to build the centres but the current situation necessitates them. He added that consultations with local mayors were being held.
Under a decree published in Friday’s issue of the government’s official gazette Magyar Kozlony, two temporary reception centres for migrants are planned, one near Martonfa and one near Sormas.
Unlike Hungary’s left-wing opposition parties, Fidesz wants to protect Hungarians, Tuzson said, accusing them of having failed to realise the need to take more effective measures in tackling the problem of illegal migration.
He noted a letter the leader of the Democratic Coalition party sent to the European Commission on the matter, and demanded explanation by former Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany for his move.
