Budapest, March 10 (MTI) – Budapest is the venue for the plenary meeting of European film organisation Eurimages between March 10 and 14, the head of the Hungarian national film foundation’s international directorate told MTI today.
It is in recognition of the revamp of Hungarian film financing and its international filmmaking presence that Eurimages, an agency under the aegis of the Council of Europe for promoting and supporting co-productions, has chosen to hold its meeting in Hungary’s capital, said Csaba Bereczki.
He noted that 36 European countries are members of Eurimages, and Hungary joined the organisation in 1990. Each year, Eurimages disburses 25 million euros. Hungarian films have received between 500,000 and 600,000 euros in an average year, he said. The country’s membership fee, covered by the national film foundation, is currently 250,000 euros.
The highlighted topic of the Budapest meeting is the equal rights of women in the film industry. A special session will be held devoted to this subject on the final day of the event with the participation of Hungarian directors.
Another important topic will be cooperation with countries beyond Europe, Bereczki said.
