The 15th Night of Museums offers access to sites otherwise barred from visitors as well as fashion shows, concerts and other programmes in Budapest museums on Saturday.
The Hungarian National Museum (Magyar Nemzeti Muzeum) organises “otherworldly walks”, archaeological investigation, irregular guided tours, concerts and tango lessons during the event.
Restauration, reproduction and rethinking of objects of old is in the centre of the events in the National Gallery (Magyar Nemzeti Galeria), where old treasures will be shown in new light, with guided tours, meditation sessions and a “Gothic chill-out zone” among the Gothic winged altars of the museum.
The cupola of the Gallery will also be accessible for visitors.
The Museum of Ethnography’s theme is inspired by its current exhibition on footwear, with Shoe-tales and slipper making for the younger visitors and guided tours and concerts for all.
The Museum of Applied Arts offers a fashion show and workshops on its last Night of the Museums before closing for renovation. The Vasarely Museum, on the other hand, will open after a two-year renovation period on Saturday.
The Hungarian Museum of Agriculture will build its event around Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, and will open its tower to visitors.
The full programme of the event is to be found at www.muzej.hu.
