Budapest, July 31 (MTI) – The Budapest city council is preparing an action plan for handling the thousands of migrants who are arriving in the city every day, daily Magyar Nemzet said on Friday.
Budapest Mayor Istvan Tarlos told the paper that the most serious issue is the sanitary situation that has developed in streets, underpasses and parks, putting increased pressure on Budapest’s public areas maintenance company, police and the utilities companies.
The action plan is expected to be ready within weeks specifying detailed tasks for these authorities. Coordination talks have already started between the interior ministry, the disaster management authority and the Budapest city council police directorate, Tarlos said.
He added that he had called a meeting of the Budapest general assembly for the earliest possible date, on Sept. 2, and the issue of handling illegal migrants will be a separate point on the meeting’s agenda.
