Budapest Airport’s service quality at an all-time high

Budapest Airport is continuously working to provide high-quality services, even as passenger numbers increase, with a strong focus on quality and the passenger experience. Ferenc Liszt International Airport has undergone significant changes in the last 5 years, and has implemented a series of developments worth more than 100 billion HUF, following a consistent strategy focusing on quality and the passenger experience. This development is also highly appreciated by passengers, according to the latest independent survey, where among 20 similar airports examined, Budapest Airport ranked first, ahead of airports such as Prague, Alicante and Barcelona. This is the first time BUD has reached this momentous position.

Every year, Budapest Airport participates in the international passenger satisfaction survey (ASQ), in which passengers rate the airport services that affect them the most, based on 37 different criteria. This is the most important indicator for airports each quarter, as it directly reflects the quality of passenger services, based on passenger ratings. This year, in the January to March period, respondents rated overall satisfaction at a record high 4.32 on a scale of 5 – 11.6% better than in the same period in 2019 – putting Budapest Airport in first place out of the 20 benchmark airports surveyed. In addition to a significant increase in overall satisfaction levels compared to 2023, even with high passenger traffic, all 36 other aspects of the survey improved or maintained their high scores, compared to last year. Among the aspects showing improvement, the courtesy of staff, orientation at the airport and waiting times stood out.

Budapest Airport excels at the Routes Europe awards

Budapest Airport scored a huge success at the Routes Europe Marketing Awards in Aarhus, Denmark. Not only did it win the Best Airline Marketing Award in the category of airports with 5-20 million passengers, but it also took home the title of overall winner of the event. The jury praised the company’s airline marketing strategy, which included innovative and creative social media solutions to promote Budapest to millions of travelers worldwide, creating a favorable position for airline partners. BUD handled 14.7 million passengers in 2023, marking a 91% recovery of pre-COVID traffic levels. Non-stop scheduled capacity expanded by over 30% to key global markets, including China, the Middle East and North Africa.

Balázs Bogáts, the chief commercial officer of Budapest Airport said: “This accolade is a testament to our commitment to excellence and innovation. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to our talented team, our airline partners and all those who contribute to our success. Together we have created a hub of connectivity, efficiency and passenger satisfaction. We remain dedicated to pushing boundaries, exploring new horizons and delivering impactful marketing solutions.”

Another international and national recognition for the PR team

Last year, Budapest Airport carried out a number of unique and complex communication activities, which enabled it to compete in several categories at the In2 Sabre Awards, the world’s largest PR awards program for the most innovative content solutions. At the award ceremony, held in London on 17 April, the jury honored two of the 2023 flagship communication projects: in the influencer campaigns category, the “24 hours at the airport” series featuring Attila Till and in the product placement category, the reality show “Fly into work!” on Tv2, which has been a great success at several awards ceremonies and among viewers.

Budapest Airport’s WELL Health-Safety certification renewed

The WELL Health-Safety Rating awarded to Ferenc Liszt International Airport in 2023 has been renewed, confirming that BUD is taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety and health of passengers and staff. The rating is designed to support business owners and operators in safeguarding the health of staff, visitors and other stakeholders. In Hungary, Terminal 2 of Budapest Airport is currently the only facility to hold this certification and is unique among airports worldwide, with only Terminal 1 in San Francisco having a similar certification, which holds the WELL Platinum certification.

During the certification process, independent experts examined five focus areas at the passenger terminals: cleaning and sanitization processes, emergency preparedness programs, health service resources, air and water quality management and stakeholder engagement and communication. The certification was previously only awarded to airports in the US and Canada, and Budapest Airport Terminal 2 is currently the only passenger terminal in the world to have this certification.
