(MTI) – An Austrian citizen who, a court Hungarian ruled, killed a Hungarian policeman by deliberately running over him two years ago, has died in a Hungarian prison, the Austrian foreign ministry told APA news agency, confirming reports in the Hungarian press.
An Austrian foreign ministry spokesman said on Saturday that the Hungarian authorities had informed the ministry about the man’s death and his relatives have also been informed. Details are not yet available and an investigation is under way, he added.
The national prison service headquarters told MTI in a statement that other inmates reported to guards in the Szeged prison that the man had lost consciousness at 7.39pm on Friday. Attempts were made by local staff and the ambulance services to resuscitate the inmate, the statement added.
An initial police investigation found no signs of third-party involvement but the detailed circumstances of the man’s death are still being investigated.
In a non-binding ruling on Sept. 25, a Szeged court sentenced Thomas Robert Bindberger, a 36 year-old man trained as a car mechanic, to 15 years prison. He had a criminal record of 15 convictions and was found guilty of murdering an official, armed assault against police at work and hazardous driving. He ran over and killed a policeman with his Hummer SUV in south Hungary in the autumn of 2012.

He DID NOT “Deliberately” run over the police officer. The other officer foolishly pepper sprayed him in the face while he vehicle was still in gear. THe officer that was run over foolishly parked IN FRONT of the Hummer. Looks like some TRAINING for the police is in order.
