Ruling Fidesz party will focus its campaign before next spring’s general election on the country’s achievements since it came to power eight years ago and security challenges posed by migration, the party’s parliamentary group leader said on Friday.
Hungary was on the brink of financial collapse in 2010. Now it is a stable economy, with a growth rate belonging to the top third in the European Union, Gergely Gulyás told a press conference in Keszthely, in south-western Hungary.
He noted record low interest rates on loans and
the 700,000 jobs created during the period.
Gulyás also highlighted significant progress made in family policy and the policy towards Hungarian communities beyond the border.
Concerning the latter, Gulyás said
the one millionth applicant for Hungarian citizenship will receive their certificate from the president of the republic on Saturday.
“All governments make mistakes, but based on the achievements, the now ruling Fidesz-KDNP alliance can rightly ask voters to support them next spring,” he said.
Gulyás said the date of the election is regulated by the constitution and set by the president of the republic. Accordingly, the vote will take place in April or May, he said.
