There were fewer births and more deaths in Hungary in the first two months of the year compared with the same period a year earlier, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said on Friday.
Fully 5.1 percent fewer children (13,891) were born in January and February compared with the same months a year earlier, while the number of deaths (26,106) increased by 11 percent.
The rate of natural population decline (3,230) was 36 percent higher compared with the same period last year.
The number of marriages declined, with 3,319 couples tying the knot, down 72 compared with the first two months of 2018.
