Bridging Europe Festival to focus on Austrian culture

Budapest, August 25 (MTI) – This year’s Bridging Europe Festival in Budapest will put the culture and especially the music of Austria in the centre of attention.

The festival, which is organized by the Palace of Arts (Mupa) and the Budapest Festival Orchestra (BFZ), will take place between September 11 and 16.

Highlights of the festival will include three concerts, with BFZ and German baritone Roman Trekel performing Mahler’s Symphony No. 7 (in E minor) in Mupa on September 11, 12 and 13.

Jazz music, dance performances, brass bands, alpine songs and covers of hit songs will also feature in the programme.

On September 14, works of the sceptic, always pessimistic Austrian writer Thomas Bernhard will be evoked in the Festival Theatre by Hungarian actors and actresses.

Mihaly Mosonyi, a Hungarian composer born in Burgenland 200 years ago, will be commemorated by a concert and an exhibition about his life.

The Bridging Europe Festival was launched by Mupa and BFZ in 2013, with the goal of focusing attention on European identity through the presentation of national cultures. This year the festival is sponsored by the Österreichisches Kulturforum.
