Budapest (MTI) – Migrant reception centres should only be built if locals approve the plans in a popular vote, Gabor Vona, leader of radical nationalist Jobbik party, said on Thursday, outlining a Jobbik-sponsored bill.
If a town or village is within 15km of such a centre, a ballot should be held, Vona told a press conference in southern Hungary, after he and fellow lawmaker Daniel Z. Karpat submitted the relevant bill today.
If more than half of voters taking part decide against a given centre, the government should be bound by their decision, he said.
