Budapest, July 13 (MTI) – Police stopped a total of 2,858 illegal border crossers in Hungary this past weekend, the national police (ORFK) told MTI on Monday.
The ORFK reported on its website that it had launched proceedings against two individuals for human smuggling and ten for forgery of official documents.
The majority of illegal border crossers were caught in the southern portion of Csongrad county, local police said.
A spokeswoman for Csongrad county police said that 788 people were stopped on Sunday, among them 113 children. The largest group apprehended included 44 Afghan, 10 Syrian and 2 Eritrean citizens, the spokeswoman said.
Police seized a total of 901 illegal border crossers on Friday, 1,009 on Saturday and 948 on Sunday, ORFK said on its website.
