Budapest (MTI) – The Hungarian Red Cross has said it is providing help to migrants at the Roszke crossing on the Serbian border.
The organisation’s deputy chief, Gabor Nagy, told public television M1 that the help is mainly in the form of providing information and psychological counselling.
For the overwhelming majority of migrants, Hungary is a transit country, and their final goal is to live in Germany, Denmark or Sweden, he noted.
Besides trying to ease the trauma that arrivals are suffering, the main task is to give information needed for their onward journey, he said.
Citing what he described as the most upsetting case of the past few days, he related the story of a family that had escaped from Syria: only the father and one of his children had made it to Hungary; the mother and their other child had been shot dead in the course of their journey.
