Press release – For the next 18 months until the elections in 2018, Gábor Vona will make a commitment each month, which will then form a core element of Jobbik’s government programme if the party gets into power.
“In this situation, not only do we need to show how Jobbik can win the elections but we must also outline what kind of a country we want to build afterwards.” the party president said in his press conference on Friday, adding that the stakes for the 2018 elections are whether Orbanism can continue or we can finally start building a fairer, more democratic and more free Hungary.
“Basically, the choice comes down to Jobbik or Fidesz,”Mr Vona concluded. In his view, Hungary’s current political arena offers Jobbik as the only alternative, the strongest opposition community.
“At present, Jobbik is the only alternative, the guarantee that there is a choice: Jobbik remained as the only hope. The government will either be replaced by us or it won’t be replaced at all.
As he put it: “PM Orbán’s attitude to political debate has clearly been demonstrated in the past few months. Based on what he has shown, nothing good can be expected: the next 18 months will be an astoundingly long and difficult period for Jobbik and Hungary alike,” explained the president, referring to the increasingly rude and contemptible smear campaign and the lies of the Fidesz media lavishly financed from taxpayers’ money.
In the party president’s opinion, the most important challenge in a situation like this is to find out how we can build bridges between the alienated segments of our society.
He announced that he was going to hold a press conference on the 18th day of every month, making a personal commitment each time. There are 18 months to go until April 2018, so he will make 18 commitments which will form the core of Jobbik’s governance as a people’s party. After the press conference, Mr Vona will continue his undercover tour of the country, which he began in 2013 and which will now be centred on a particular topic at each station.
No migrants – neither poor nor rich
“If Jobbik gets into government, we will not allow the Hungarian nation to be divided any longer: we will prevent any settlement of migrants here, regardless if is orchestrated by Mr Juncker or Mr Rogán,” stated the president, announcing his first personal commitment: “no migrants – neither poor nor rich”.

Mr Vona voiced his opinion that the debate on the Constitutional amendment clearly demonstrated that Jobbik was the only party genuinely interested in solving the problem. The government party took a huge risk and made a gamble of the national referendum and the Constitutional amendment alike, which revealed that Fidesz, contrary to Jobbik, is not truly interested in ensuring Hungary’s security . Talking about Fidesz’ attitude to Jobbik’s Constitutional bill, Mr Vona said the government party was not likely to back it, even though it is a verbatim copy of the version earlier submitted by the PM, except for one additional sentence on the residency bonds.
The president explained that the immigration issue reached far beyond Hungary’s domestic political arena as it impacts the whole world. In his view, Western European countries have already made their choice, their only remaining dilemma is how to live with multiculturalism.
“Here in Central Europe, we still have a choice: Jobbik and I are for Hungary preserving its cultural heritage passed down from generation to generation,” the party president finished his press conference, going on to the next station of his tour of the country.
